New Speed Limits For 41 Stretches Of Roads In Eastern Part Of Singapore
The Traffic Police (TP) and Land Transport Authority (LTA) are pleased to announce the completion of the comprehensive road speed limit review for the eastern part of Singapore. Following the review, 41 stretches of roads in areas such as Bedok, Changi, Pasir Ris and Tampines will have their speed limits revised with effect from 1 October 2005.

Reasons for Island-wide Speed Limit Review
1. Road speed limits are reviewed when there are changes in the road network and traffic patterns. Such reviews, which require time and careful planning, are usually carried out on a quarterly basis.
2. TP and LTA decided to conduct an island-wide speed limit review after taking into consideration several factors. Firstly, recent new developments such as the North East MRT Line (NEL) and the Sengkang and Punggol New Towns have brought about changes in land use and vehicular and pedestrian traffic patterns. These changes, in addition to plans for future developments, have a substantial impact on the speed limits of the surrounding roads.
3. In addition, advances in technology have greatly improved safety features of vehicles and roads. Coupled with public feedback that the speed limits of certain roads were too low, LTA and TP deemed it timely to conduct an island-wide speed limit review.
