It seems like stars have chosen 2023 to align every possible anniversary for Porsche. Not only is this year the brand’s 75th anniversary, it is also celebrating 60 years of 911. And if you’re based in the Kingdom of Thailand, it will feel extra special because it also marks Porsche Thailand’s 30th anniversary.

So, what did Porsche plan for its birthday here in Thailand? A Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur-fettled 911 Carrera GTS no less. If you’re one of those who dismisses the significance of birthdays, you might be swayed to think otherwise after Porsche’s attempt to tell this story headlined by a one-off special.

While other cultures may emphasise the date of a person’s birth, in Thailand the day of the week a person is born is also very important. “Ask any Thai person and chances are they can instantly tell you the day they were born” - this certainly rings true, and an experience I’ve discovered first-hand having lived here for a good number of years. Most Thais in the past would dress to the colour of the day, and while it's not so prevalent nowadays, Porsche’s decision to bring both German precision engineering with local heritage to the fore with a special edition model sounds just about right.

The 911 Carrera GTS 30 Years Porsche Thailand Edition is rooted in a proud heritage and brimming with artisanal qualities – just like the country it draws inspiration from. A limited run of 911 Carrera GTS models will be produced, and each can be specified in one of seven iconic Paint to Sample (PTS) colours, paying homage to every colour of the day in the week in Thai culture.

Over and above the exterior paint finishes, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur also curated more bespoke touches including centre lock wheels finished in a black/exterior colour two-tone, corresponding to the body colour.

More additions include black high-gloss contrast finishes across the exterior, extending to the SportDesign front apron, front intakes, side window sills, rear apron inlays, rear lid inlays and exterior mirrors. A “30 Years Porsche Thailand Edition” plaque is hand-applied on the B pillars.

The car’s rear decklid is painted red, white and blue according to the colours of the Thai flag. Finally, the standard model designation trim is replaced with a more subtle and contemporary ‘911’ logo.

Now for the show stopper. Just like a seasoned painter’s palette, the highlight involves a 911 Carrera GTS 30 Years Porsche Thailand Edition finished in all mentioned seven colours. The “Inspiration Car” is exquisitely hand-painted from body and paint specialists at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. It’s definitely a more striking one-off compared to the other commission last year with Pixar Animation Studios - the 911 Sally Special. Learn more about it when it's presented in the flesh at the Bangkok International Motor Show, commencing mid this week.
