Two of the five Sciroccos entering the gruelling 24 Hour Race later this month lined up on the grid among a total of 180 competitors.

Driven by two-time WRC champion Carlos Sainz (E), together with Franck Mailleux (F) and Vanina Ickx (B), the powerful 315 PS petrol-engined Scirocco GT24 posted consistently strong lap times of the 13-mile ‘Nordschleife' circuit, and claimed victory in the 2.0-litre turbocharged class and 25th overall.

Following its debut at the Nürburgring last month, the gas-powered Scirocco GT24-CNG, continued to impress on track. Driven by Dr Ulrich Hackenberg (D), Member of the Board of Volkswagen AG with responsibility for Technical Development, alongside journalists Bernd Ostmann (D) and Peter Wyss (CH), the distinctive tropical orange coupé beat a number of more exotic machines to an overall 33rd place and victory in the Alternative Fuels class.

The test took place ahead of the 37th ADAC Nürburgring 24-Hour Race between 23-24 May 2009.
