SG: Construction of North-South Expressway delayed
The LTA initially scheduled groundbreaking works for the North-South Expressway to begin in 2015. However, due to the complexity of the project, more engineering studies will have to be conducted, and as such, construction is likely to begin next year instead. After the studies have been completed, the LTA will need at least 6 months to call for a tender for the construction of the highway. The NSE will span 21km, and part of it will be underground. The project is estimated to cost $8 billion, and will provide residents of Upper Thomson a direct link to the city. The NSE should also help to ease traffic loads on the CTE when it is completed. SG: Bids for bus contract in
The LTA has receive bids from 11 companies as part of its public bus contract. This is brilliant news, as there is interest in a field that has been thought of as barely profitable. 4 of the bids are from local firms, 6 are foreign, and 1 is a joint-venture between a local and foreign firm.
The winning bidder will be announced in April, and they will be given a year to prepare for operations. They will operate the Bulim package of 26 routes from as early as July 2016. Experts estimate that the five-year contract is worth up to $100 million a year. More route packages will be up for bidding. Currently, SBS Transit and SMRT have nine route packages to run post-expiry of their current operating licences, but in 2021, the two will have to bid and jostle for the rights to run them afterwards.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.

SG: Transport fares unlikely to fall
Even though there has been a recent fall in oil prices, transport fares are unlike to decline, as the fare increase for 2015 was originally scheduled to take effect last year, but was delayed. Based on current oil prices, do expect a drop in public transport fares next year by about 1%.
Fuel prices are not the only thing the PTC takes into consideration when increasing or decreasing the fares. The fares are also calculated through inflation and wages, and apparently, energy makes up a mere 20 percent of the fare adjustment quantum.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
