SG: SMRT apologises for service disruptions
SMRT-operated lines have suffered from numerous service disruptions recently. There were 2 incidents yesterday, and that adds to the 3 that have already occurred over the past 9 days. Last Thursday’s disruption started at 5.35pm, when track faults at Clementi and Lakeside stations resulted in a slowdown from Queenstown to Boon Lay. Bus bridging services were activated. The issue was resolved by 7.12pm. On the same day, a signalling fault stopped all trains between Haw Par Villa and HarbourFront. 4 trains with passengers onboard were manually driven to the nearest stations, where the free bridging service will take over. Normal service was resumed at 8.11am.
SMRT is currently looking into the cause of the delays, and will work improving both their service standards and the communication with their bus department should similar incidents happen again, which should ensure a more rapid deployment of buses for the bridging service.
In reference to the spate of incidents, SMRT CEO Mr Desmond Kuek, said “We apologise for the rail incidents over the past week. The SMRT team will stay focused on safety and reliability improvements as we work to renew Singapore’s ageing rail network to the benefit of our commuters.”
