Speeding In Singapore Will Result In More Fines And Demerit Points From 2026 Onwards
Existing penalties will remain till the end of this year.

Red-light cameras across Singapore were activated to detect speeding from 1 April. Apparently more than a handful treated it as an April Fools’ joke, but it’s certainly no laughing matter this time - speed-related offenses will be made stricter from 2026 onwards.

It will not be easy on our wallets. Under the revised rates, offenders face at least S$50 increase in fines. Pedal-to-metal action that exceeds the speed limit by 50km/h will result in 24 demerit points (instead of the current 18). That means his/her license will be suspended, over and above an appointment to face prosecution in court. In football speak, it's a straight red.

This decision was not made overnight - statistics revealed that speed-related fatal accidents increased significantly. Just last year, there were more than 7,000 road accidents and 142 fatalities.
