The Dawn of a new Era

Rolls-Royce has announced the advent of their latest car, the Dawn. In what is basically the convertible (or drophead in Roller speak) version of the Wraith, Rolls-Royce is set to retake the ultra-luxury convertible segment of the market, going head to head with the likes of the Bentley Continental GT convertibles and Aston Martin’s DB9 and Vanquish Volantes.

Ahead of the official launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Rolls-Royce has unveiled the car to the media world in a unique online preview. The car is summed up by Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Muller-Otvos: “Quite simply, it is the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built.”

The name is typical Rolls-Royce, inspired by the 1950s Silver Dawn drophead and continuing the tradition of hauntingly evocative names like the renowned Phantom and Ghost limousines.

Says Rolls-Royce: “In the most challenging times, the phrase “It is always darkest just before the dawn” – originally coined by English Restoration preacher Thomas Fuller – resonates as a beacon of hope. This early morning darkness, where apparitions such as phantoms, ghosts or wraiths have been imagined, and where one’s apprehensions lurk, is brushed aside by an energising burst of early morning sunlight as one awakens to a new dawn and the endless possibilities of a new day.”

The Dawn is a 2+2 convertible, but Rolls-Royce has promised that it will be a comfortable 4-seater than will take all four occupants in supreme comfort and luxury. No comprise was a theme they adopted for the Dawn, and the car is set to deliver that for all seated in it.

The usual ultra-customisable and highest quality materials are of course available to customers of the brand, and Rolls-Royce also claims to deliver the quietest open top car ever made.

Powering the Dawn will be the Wraith’s 6.6L twin turbo V12 with 563bhp and 780Nm of torque. This is paired with the satellite aided transmission found in the Wraith as well. The car is also designed to be both dynamic to drive but also refined enough to be worthy of its Spirit of Ecstasy badge up front.

Expect usual Rolls-Royce prices; although no official word on pricing has been released.
