UK: Jaguar to make missing 6 'Special GTs'
Jaguar planned to produce 18 'Special GT’ E-Types in 1963. However, only 12 were built, with 11 being delivered in 1963 and the final unit in 1964. Jaguar decided to make good its promise almost 50 years later, by finally completing the missing 6 cars. The new cars will be hand-built by skilled Jaguar craftsmen in Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations’ new facility at Browns Lane in England. All 6 customer cars will be given their original VIN numbers allocated in 1963. The new cars will be built out of aluminum to original standards. They will be equipped with the classic six-cylinder aluminium engine with dry sump lubrication. The cars will be fit for FIA homologation for historic events. The first new ‘Special GT’, which will not bear one of the 6 VINs, is a prototype dubbed 'Car Zero'. It has been completed, and will make its first public appearance on the 14th of August, 2014 at Pebble Beach. ‘Car Zero’ will spend the rest of its life at the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust after it has completed its testing and promotional duties.
