Will Acura “Advanced Sports Car” be the next NSX?
With the Toyota Supra and Nissan Skyline GT-R in the pipeline, is it any surprise that Honda should also be entering the supercar territory with its own sportscar? And, will it be the long anticipated replacement for the NSX?

Like Lexus is the luxury brand for Toyota, Honda has Acura, mainly in the US (and in Hong Kong and Taiwan, I think), and come January 7th 2007, it will reveal its “Advanced Sports Car Concept” – pictured above.
From the sketch, it looks like the car will have a “traditional” front engine-rear wheel drive layout, like the Nissan 350Z and Mazda RX-8. This will allow Honda to “share” some of the components it uses in its S2000 roadster – presently the only non-front wheel drive car in its line-up.
On the other hand, the NSX was mid-engined, like a Ferrari F430, and this layout certainly allows for a more dramatic sportscar. Component-wise (engines, axles, . . . etc) there is also a larger range to choose from, and it will be easier to adapt the 3.5-litre V6 engine from the Legend to power this car. Honda is a pioneer in developing hybrid petrol/electric powerplants, and could boost the engines output with electric motors, just as Lexus has done with the RX400h and LS600h.
Either way, the “Advanced Sports Car Concept” promises to be quite exciting.
