Alfa Romeo 147 Ti Selespeed 2.0 Review: Love at first drive
Is love at first drive possible? We decide to find out if this is fact or fiction with the latest Alfa Romeo. And sadly no, it's not the 8C Competizione.

Selespeed is the name given to the electrohydraulic manual transmission used in Alfa Romeo cars. Developed by Magneti Marelli, the Selespeed is a robotized manual gearbox with an electronic clutch. The Selespeed found in the 147 Ti can be operated via paddle shifters from the steering wheel or via the gear stick. The gearbox also has a "City" mode which self-shifts in a manner similar to a traditional automatic gearbox.
The speed of the gear change is interlink to the engine revolutions - for example, if the engine is spinning above 5,000 rpm with the throttle body more than 60% opened, the Selespeed will change cogs 60% faster than normal.
Other cars using similar gearboxes are the Ferrari F355 F1 and Aston Martin Vanquish.
It isn't hard to fall in love with the 147 Ti, just like it isn't hard to fall in love with Nicole Kidman. But of course, there is no such thing as a "perfect partner" and the 147 Ti do have some drawbacks.
It may not be the best value for money nor is it the most reliable hatch out there in the market (it is an Alfa after all), but the 147 Ti makes up for it with a gorgeous body design, reasonable interior decor and brilliant handling. Plus the emotional connection makes this beauty a hatch like no other.
And I am already in love with Ti.
