BMW M6 4.4 V8 Gran Coupe Review: Four door bahn stormer
What has four doors, a great big turbocharged V8 in the front and will give the GTR a good run for its money? It starts with M…
An electronically controlled LSD works hard in the bends to keep this big sedan in control even with an extremely sloppy exit, the rear end will come around. BMW engineers have a great sense of humour evident in how quickly the ESP saves you from the hedge. Only at the very last moment when you believe all hope is lost and your $600,000 M car is going to be totaled, the ESP swoops in to save the day and with a little ‘slip’ added for style mind you!
Despite weighing in at a whisker under 2 tons, the car hardly betrays its heft on the road. However, some inertia can be felt when stringing bends together. Traditionalists would be happy to know that the rack used here remains hydraulic which gives drivers good feel of the tarmac.
In cruise mode, the M suspension's 'Comfort' setting remains firm but supple. Making long motorway cruises a lot less painful than one would imagine from an M car.
The most attractive concept of the M6 is that it is a wolf in sheep’s clothing that will be just as comfortable running wild with the supercar league as it is chauffeuring your missus to her spa appointment.
In our minds, this is one of the most versatile cars that the M division has produced in a long time. It is an automotive dream of power, performance, luxury and elegance rolled into one regal package.
