Ferrari California Review: Californification
The California is marketed as the Ferrari you can drive on a daily basis but we discover that it's still one red hot, chili padi, thoroughbred of a Prancing Horse
The car we drove came with optional ‘Daytona' seats that look fantastic - these seats are designed to look like those on the 1960s 365GTB Daytona model. Despite its petite looks, the California is actually a 2 + 2 so you can squeeze a couple of mates at the rear to share the Ferrari experience with them.
Ferrari is all about exquisiteness and exclusivity - Maranello is set to produce only 5000 Californias for the next two years so you might have to take a queue number even if you have the odd $800 grand to put one in your garage.
The California was never meant to be a raw driving machine that owners will take to the track each weekend - it is more comfortable cruising down Orchard Road, being stared and gawked at. Rivals are more big convertibles or GTs like the Bentley Continental GTC, Aston Martin DB9 Volante, Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG and so on. Despite its ‘softer' nature though, the California trumps the abovementioned cars in many aspects and is still one hot blooded Italian Ferrari in soul and heart.
