The All-New Subaru Forester - Bigger, Safer, Better

- The Subaru Forester is one of Singapore’s favourite SUVs, and we got a taste of the new car that is to come to Singapore.
Built on Subaru’s new Subaru Global Platform (SGP), featuring the use of ultra-high tensile steel, which is intended to keep all Subaru cars built extremely rigid.
Singapore gets only a 2.0 litre engine, and we understand from Subaru, that we will not see a turbocharged model anytime soon. The car will be available in i-S and i-L trim treatments.
Subaru core technologies, like its Symmetrical All-wheel Drive System, Boxer engine which contributes to a lower centre of gravity, and newer to the brand, their EyeSight Driver Assist Technology not only makes the car handle better, but our driving impressions have proven that the Forester is a massive improvement over the outgoing model.
A smooth continuously variable transmission (CVT) powers the wheels, and Subaru mentions that the new transmission has been improved, delivering better acceleration and fuel efficiency. Road noise has also been reduced, adding to its refinement.
The new car simply feels more balanced, and agile especially around bends, thanks largely to their active torque vectoring technology, which applies brakes to the inner wheels when making sharper turns, especially at higher speeds.
The new EyeSight safety system aids in detecting impending collisions, helping drivers to manage their throttle, and eventually brake if evasive action is not detected. Together with the system, the car’s adaptive cruise control, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure and lane sway warning, are just some of the high-tech features you can expect in the new car.
Unlike many market equivalent cars, Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive System, which features the X-MODE function, enhances your driving experience when taking the car off the beaten path; where its minimum ground clearance of 220mm assures that the car easily clears a good amount of what nature throws at it. Its rigid chassis makes the Forester more durable, and together with claddings and an underguard, vital components are kept safe during more serious off-roading.
Passengers are treated to an interior with greatly improved quality, and interior dimensions have also increased. Additional goodies like divided seatback pockets, USB charging ports and air-conditioning vents behind centre console, bringing a refreshed riding experience for the passengers. Rear passengers also benefit from added rear legroom, and cargo room has also seen an improvement, wide enough for your golf clubs. Complementing the larger boot, the rear electric tailgate has also gone wider, and operates more quickly for improved access.
Singapore can expect to see the all-new Subaru Forester in showrooms in October. Stay tuned for our full review.
