Unveiled at Super AI Night in Jakarta recently, the new Super AI Cockpit will debut in the upcoming Omoda 4 before gradually rolling out across future models. If the brand's Super Hybrid System was about making cars more efficient, well, this latest innovation is about making them more intuitive.

More Conversation Than Command

Instead of relying on rigid voice commands, the Super AI Cockpit uses ByteDance's Seed large language model and an Agentic AI architecture to understand natural speech and user intent.

The difference sounds subtle, but it's significant. Rather than memorising specific phrases, drivers can simply speak naturally, whether they're adjusting the air-conditioning, searching for a destination or asking for nearby restaurants.

Supporting five major languages and local digital services, the system has also been designed with Southeast Asian users in mind instead of merely translating software developed for other markets.

A Car That Learns

Perhaps the more interesting feature is that the cockpit isn't intended to stay the same.

Through over-the-air updates, Omoda-Jaecoo plans to continuously expand its capabilities, allowing the system to learn driver preferences, remember habits and personalise everything from greetings to entertainment. AI-generated wallpapers, customised responses and a growing voice persona are all part of the experience.

The company is also integrating wearables such as smartwatches and smart glasses, creating a connected ecosystem where information flows naturally between driver, devices and vehicle.

Whether all of this works seamlessly in the real world remains to be seen, but it's certainly a more ambitious approach than, say, simply fitting a larger touchscreen.

Beginning Of A Software Race?

For years, buyers compared horsepower, fuel economy and, more recently, battery range.

But now another battleground is emerging. As electric vehicles become increasingly similar mechanically, software could become the biggest deciding factor between one model and another; the brands that deliver the smartest, most intuitive digital experience may ultimately gain the upper hand.

That's the gamble Omoda-Jaecoo is making with the Super AI Cockpit.
