Aston Martin secured its best-ever result at the Nürburgring 24 Hours last weekend, with the Walkenhorst Motorsport-run Vantage GT3 finishing third overall in the 54th edition of the endurance classic.

Marking 20 years since the Vantage first competed in the event, works drivers Mattia Drudi, Christian Krognes and Nicki Thiim guided the #34 car through one of the most demanding races on the motorsport calendar. The podium finish represents a milestone for both Aston Martin and German outfit Walkenhorst Motorsport, neither of which had previously claimed an overall podium at the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

Competing in the highly competitive SP9 Pro class against more than 40 GT3 entries, the Vantage showed strong pace throughout qualifying and the race. Strategic early pit stops helped the team gain track position in the opening hours, while cool temperatures and mixed weather conditions played to the strengths of the car and its Pirelli tyres.

The trio remained in contention throughout a chaotic race marked by intermittent rain, Code 60 slow zones and multiple retirements among front-running rivals. Drudi briefly climbed to second in the closing stages after a penalty for rival Lamborghini, but a late Code 60 period on the final lap ultimately left the Aston Martin third at the chequered flag.

The result continues Aston Martin’s long-standing history at the Nürburgring, where the brand has amassed 10 class victories and more than 30 podium finishes since returning to endurance racing in the mid-2000s.

Aston Martin has enjoyed a winning tradition at the Nürburgring for more than 60 years. Sir Stirling Moss recorded a hat-trick of 1000km victories with Aston Martin in the 1950s, including the 1959 edition that helped to secure the World Sportscar Championship crown. That was in the same year that Aston Martin’s DBR1 claimed its famous overall victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
