Established in 1991, the Audi quattro Cup involves over 750 tournaments in 52 countries. Over 86,000 amateur golfers took part in the 2008 tournament.

In Singapore, over 260 golfers are expected to take part in the one-day tournament on the Serapong and Tanjong courses this year.

"The Audi quattro Cup enters its 19th season this year and it’s enjoying ever growing popularity," said Reinhold Carl, Managing Director, Audi Singapore. "This year, the Singapore tournament will double in size from last year."

"Audi and golf have a lot in common. Both share the appreciation of highly developed technologies, design and sportiness as a formula for success. The Audi quattro Cup is a great opportunity for amateur golfers in Singapore to compete against the best in the world and, of course, have some fun in the process."

The name of the competition is inspired by Audi’s pioneering quattro permanent all-wheel-drive technology. quattro distributes power as needed to all four wheels, providing superb handling ability. This quattro theme translates to the close cooperation required in the tournament’s Greensomes Stableford format, in which teams of four play with alternate shots to achieve the highest score.

The Audi quattro Cup is open to Audi owners and their friends – of a minimum age of 18 years – who are amateur golfers in Singapore. The winners, one team each from the Serapong and Tanjong course, will compete in the Singapore Country Final to be held at the Sentosa Golf Club in September.

Winners of the country final will represent the nation at the Audi quattro Cup 2009 World Final at the home of the 2009 Australian Open, the New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney Australia from December 14 – 18, 2009.

In the 2008 world final in Spain, the Singapore team comprised of Mr Lee Tian Beng and Mr Tan Teck Lee finished in an impressive fifth place.

The Audi quattro Cup derives its name from Audi’s quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. In 1980, quattro revolutionised vehicle performance and safety in the way it transferred power to the car’s wheels from front to back and side to side as needed. In keeping with the quattro theme, the Audi quattro Cup adopts a four player per flight format (two teams of two players), with constant rotation in play.

Competitors in this year’s Audi quattro Cup in Singapore will also have a chance to walk away with a new generation Audi Q7. The sporty and comfortable, high-performance SUV is the hole-in-one prize.
