AUTOMOBILE Magazine announced today the Volkswagen Golf TDI® Clean Diesel and Volkswagen GTI have been named to the outlet’s prestigious “All-Star” list for 2012. This is the sixth award for the GTI and the first for the Golf TDI Clean Diesel from the magazine.
“We’re thrilled to be honored by AUTOMOBILE Magazine,” said Tim Mahoney, Volkswagen executive vice president and chief product and marketing officer. “Volkswagen is committed to making German engineering accessible to the American consumer, and being a part of the All-Star list for yet another year underscores that we’re succeeding in our efforts.”
Each year, the editors at AUTOMOBILE Magazine choose ten outstanding cars that they deem “All-Stars.” “While the lineup of this year’s All-Stars covers nearly every vehicle segment, each one shares one major characteristic,” said Jean Jennings, President and Editor-in-Chief of AUTOMOBILE Magazine. “Regardless of the purpose or cost, every All-Star is fun to drive.”
This year, the Golf TDI Clean Diesel and GTI share one spot, both variants of the acclaimed sixth-generation Golf compact hatchback. “The Golf TDI Clean Diesel and GTI are cars in a class of their own,” said David Zenlea, assistant editor at AUTOMOBILE Magazine. ”They’re German enthusiasts’ cars that just happen to be compact and fuel-efficient.”
