Baby Lexus gets souped-up, again!

When Lexus launched the IS250, it replaced the IS200 which everyone knows was sold in Japan as the Toyota Altezza. In its JDM spec, this car either with a 2.0-litre straight-6 (which is the Lexus IS200), but it was also available with wonderfully lusty four-cylinder 2.0-litre that put out 210bhp (vs the 160bhp of the IS200), and came mated to a close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox.

As things would have it, Toyota decided a couple of years ago that all Lexus vehicles will no longer badge-engineered Toyota models, and as Lexus’ have to have six or eight cylinders, the super hot Altezza was not replaced.

Well, maybe not! Lexus has released a teaser picture of the IS-F, an “all-new” high-performance version of the IS250. The press release hints of the IS-F having a V8 powerplant, as well as special styling features to differentiate the car from the standard IS. Let’s hope this “hot” new Lexus makes it here, although it’s a pity the V8 will likely attract more roadtax because of its engine size.
