BMW's CEO Norbert Reithofer announced that the concept car will not be going into production due to the current economic climate.

Instead, BMW will be putting its resources to use developing future technologies, such as their EfficientDynamics and project i programs.

Had the CS concept made it to production, it would have gone head-to-head with Porsche's Panamera.

Unfortunately, the financial crisis will ensure that demand for supercars stays very limited, so going-ahead with the CS at this point in time could mean massive losses instead of huge profits.

BMW fans can hope for the project to be reinstated when world economy rebounds. At the moment however, the German automaker is tight-lipped as to whether the CS will ever get the green light again.
