Global car servicing network, Bosch Car Service, recently conducted a survey to compare car drivers’ habits and perceptions towards car servicing. The survey polled 1,022 adults over the age of 18 in the UK and found that 70% of female drivers leave the task of car maintenance to their male counterparts.

A similar trend has been noted in Asia, including Singapore, according to Mr Michael Goh, Country Manager of Automotive Aftermarket (Singapore, Indonesia and Cambodia), Robert Bosch SEA.

Key highlights:
1. 70% of women leave car servicing to the men; only three out of ten women take their cars for servicing on their own, compared to seven out of ten men
2. 35% of women were not confident that they would have a good experience from taking their cars for servicing as compared to other household chores, compared to 24% of men
3. Three out of 10 drivers under the age of 24 (both genders) are letting their parents deal with car maintenance; the same percentage takes his/ her own car for servicing
4. While younger drivers (under the age of 24) did not express any greater concern about car servicing experience in general, 20% of them cited workshops overlooking faults as their greatest concern, compared to just 8% of drivers (aged over 35) who had the same concern

Michael Goh, Country Manager of Robert Bosch (SEA) commented,
“While the survey was conducted in the UK, the findings are consistent with what we have seen in Asia. Men have traditionally taken the lead in car-related matters in most places around the world, including Singapore. However, this is not to say that car maintenance is not for the ladies. There is a growing number of female drivers who are equally competent both in terms of driving skills and car care, even in Singapore. At Bosch, our comprehensive vehicle diagnostics and repair services will continue to match increasingly complex vehicle systems to support all car lovers globally, regardless of age and gender.”
