What is a Tourbillon?

It’s a nod to Bugatti's French heritage, referring to a watchmaking innovation from 1801 by a Swiss-born genius in France. This complex and beautiful invention, which counteracts gravity for more accurate timekeeping, continues to be celebrated as a pinnacle of watchmaking excellence over 200 years later.

Why is this Bugatti named Tourbillon?

The Bugatti Tourbillon emphasises mechanical timelessness, ensuring it remains relevant for generations. To avoid technological “obsolescence”, the car features enduring design elements, such as an analogue instrument cluster crafted by Swiss watchmakers. This approach ensures the Tourbillon, like a cherished heirloom, is designed to last and be admired for centuries.

How aerodynamic is the Bugatti Tourbillon?

The Bugatti Tourbillon leverages over 20 years of expertise from the Veyron and Chiron, featuring patented technologies that ensure aerodynamic balance. The rear wing stays “submerged” at top speeds, providing equilibrium, enhances downforce at lower speeds and acts as an airbrake when decelerating. A new diffuser design, starting just behind the passenger cabin, rises at an ideal angle to maintain perfect balance. This diffuser also integrates a new crash concept, remaining effective yet hidden, supporting the car's open rear-end design.

Where is the tourbillon in the Bugatti Tourbillon?

The Bugatti Tourbillon's centerpiece is an instrument cluster designed by Swiss watchmakers, comprising over 600 parts made from titanium and gemstones like sapphire and ruby. This intricately engineered cluster, with tolerances between 50 and 5 microns and weighing just 700g, remains stationary as the steering wheel rim rotates around it. This fixed hub steering wheel design ensures drivers have a clear view of the instruments regardless of steering angle, highlighting the cluster as a focal point of the driving experience.

How powerful is the Bugatti Tourbillon?

The Bugatti Tourbillon features a new 8.3-litre naturally aspirated V16 engine, developed with Cosworth, and three electric motors. It produces a total of 1,800hp, with 1,000hp from the engine and 800hp from the electric motors. Despite its power, the engine weighs only 252 kilograms.

How heavy is the Bugatti Tourbillion?

Despite expectations that each new model would be heavier, especially with added hybrid powertrain or enhanced performance, the Bugatti Tourbillon, weighing less than 2 tonnes, surprises by delivering significantly improved performance and a powerful electric system while weighing less than the Chiron. This accomplishment underscores the Tourbillon's remarkable engineering, combining lightweight construction with the instant torque of its electric motors to achieve exceptional performance.

How many Bugatti Tourbillions will be built?

The Bugatti Tourbillon is now in its testing phase, with prototypes already on the road ahead of customer deliveries starting in 2026. Limited to 250 units, each car will be hand-assembled at the Bugatti Atelier in Molsheim. This follows the production of the final W16-powered Bugatti models, Bolide and W16 Mistral.
