Filling up for Charity
Shell Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 Station raises $20,000 for the elderly.

Singapore, 28 November 2008 - Shell today presented a cheque for $20,000 to the Asian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA) Elderly Services. This follows a month-long donation drive in conjunction with the launch of Shell's new Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 retail station earlier last month. The funds were presented to the AWWA Elderly Services at an event organized by Shell for close to 200 elderly beneficiaries, in celebration of Senior Citizens' Week.
As part of its commitment to make a difference in the Ang Mo Kio community, Shell donated $0.03 per litre of all fuel sales at its Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 station from 10 October to 9 November 2008 to
the AWWA Elderly Services. Additional funds were raised through a charity car wash held during the launch weekend from 11 to 12 October 2008.
The $20,000 raised will be channelled to support AWWA Elderly Services' initiatives, including a Community Home that offers sheltered housing, a Seniors Activity Centre that provides an
environment for the elderly to develop friendship and inter-dependence, and AWWA's READYCARE Centre, which provides rehabilitation and day-care services for seniors suffering from physical dysfunction. This amount comes on top of Shell's sponsorship of a year's supply of fuel for AWWA's passenger van.
"We are delighted to have been able to make a real difference to the community and residents of Ang Mo Kio. The success of this charity drive is really the work of the Ang Mo Kio residents themselves, as
we have witnessed how the community has come together to show their support for the AWWA. We hope that our efforts can contribute towards their mission of helping, serving and caring for the elderly
there," said Mr Henry Chu, General Manager, Retail Sales & Operations, Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd.
"We are very encouraged to see companies like Shell going the extra mile for our elderly, and this donation will go a long way in helping us provide rehabilitation services as well as social and physical
support for the elderly under our care. This, together with the activities they planned today, are a wonderful gift for our elderly beneficiaries in celebration of Senior Citizens' Week," said Dr Kan See Mun, Director of AWWA.
