Volvo has always had this boring but extremely safe brand image. Then came the S60R. With 300hp being channeled through all four wheels, most of the automotive world was shocked - a car from Volvo that sent pulses racing?
Now the rumors of a new Volvo hot hatch have heated up with talk of a new 300-horsepower C30 for Europe. The new model would be powered by the same turbocharged 2.5-litre, five cylinder turbo engine that powers the new Ford Focus RS. The difference between the two cars, which will share the same chassis, is that the Volvo would be offered with a Haldex all-wheel drive system in contrast to the Ford's torque-steer susceptible front-engine, front-drive layout.
Larger 20-inch wheels on the C30, together with a special body kit should give it a more aggressive look. There are also reports circulating that Volvo may keep the new model's production run to only around 4,500 units worldwide, so as to retain its exclusivity.
