Hyundai’s Flagship SUV Receives A Nip And Tuck

2023 has been quite newsworthy so far for Hyundai. Even amongst the bevy of launches at Singapore Motorshow, it stood out with a local edition launch of the Ioniq 5 EV, hyped on by one of the most intriguing number plate bidding processes in recent times. While it’ll take some beating for the next communication to top that of the Ioniq, we are confident that this is the more relatable launch for the masses.

Families that require a 7-seater SUV can now shortlist the Palisade in facelift guise. It is now offered in its most luxurious “Calligraphy” trim, with freshened interior and exterior design cues, new infotainment upgrades and safety features.

The design of the new Palisade is dominated by a wider cascading grille with parametric design, just like in the Tucson. The new forward lighting signature features vertically-connected LED composite lights that frame the grille, adding to the sharp, commanding facade.

This SUV is also designed with a heavy emphasis on aerodynamics. A fast A-pillar angle, a rear spoiler side garnish, an optimised front cooling area with an extended internal air guide, aero underside panels and rear wheel aero deflectors are inputs to make the car drive more efficiently. These allow the Palisade to glide through air only with a sliver more drag than the futuristic-looking Staria.

The new 7-seater configuration offers an innovative “Ergo” driver’s seat designed to provide comfort and help reduce fatigue during long drives. Additionally, now both driver and passenger seats can recline to relaxation comfort seat mode. The facelifted Palisade now provides heating and ventilation for third-row seating passengers - a first for Hyundai. It’s worth noting though, that the pre-facelift Paslisade had 8 seats. With this latest version, you'll lose out on one seat on the second row, but gain two more spacious, “captain-style” seats - a welcome tradeoff, only if 7 seats are sufficient for you.

The Palisade's expanded suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems now includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, Reverse and Remote Smart Parking Assist, Smart Cruise Control and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA).
