The Duratec petrol engines that powers the current Focus will be carried over to the new model. Standard cylinder capacities range from 1.4 to 2.0-litres, 80 PS (59 kW) to 145 PS (107 kW) respectively. All Duratec petrol engines are equipped, as standard, with a five-speed manual transmission. For 1.6-litre (100 PS/74 kW) and 2.0-litre (145 PS/107 kW) variants, the proven Durashift-FN automatic transmission is available as an option.

The 2008 Ford Focus is available with new customer focused, premium quality features including Ford's Easyfuel capless refuelling (to prevent misfilling), 'Ford Power' button (Ford's marketing speak for engine start/stop button), a tyre deflation detection system, LED rear lamps, DAB radio and a premium centre console with 230 volt power socket

The new Focus is also available with the latest state-of-the art Ford PowerShift six-speed double-clutch transmission option that offers the efficiency and dynamics of a manual combined with the ease of a high quality automatic (think SST and DSG)
