Lexus Hybrid Driving Experience 2009

Renowned instructors such as Motorsport Champion, Rick Bates, from Bates Advanced Driving, were specially flown in from Australia, to conduct the training program. The day was comprised of both theory and adrenaline-pumping practical sessions.

Participants had the opportunity to discover the unrivaled performance of the Lexus Hybrids such as the LS, GS and RX hybrids during the sampler sessions.

Thereafter, they had a chance to experience the benefits of the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) via three stations - Dual Surface, Lane Change and Cornering.

Two of the conditions were done in wet conditions created by a water truck.

[B][U]Challenging Conditions[/B][/U]

In the Dual-Surface station, participants had a chance to test a car without ABS and EBD functions, surprising themselves when the car spun 540 degrees on a wet vinyl surface. Thereafter, they would experience a stable RX hybrid, fully equipped with safety features, for their comparison.

At the Lane Change station, participants challenged themselves by driving a GS Hybrid at 65 km/h on a slippery surface, maneuvering along a slalom, without braking. Many participants were encouraged when they managed to avoid the collapsible cones, while others were disappointed when they ran over too many.

At the Cornering Station, participants had to overcome their blind spots at 75 km/h and test the control of the LS Hybrid by applying the brakes only after they had passed the corner.

[B][U]Hot laps[/B][/U]

Instructors took over the wheel of three GS Hybrids, while the participants sat in the cars. The instructors showcased the cars' agility and performance with sharp turns at 120 km/h, causing the passengers to hold on to their seats.

The passengers were all smiling as they got out of the cars, as the thrill was unforgettable. Many went for a repeat round, just to feel the adrenaline rush all over again.
