It may have been a long time coming, but Audi has finally unveiled the latest addition to its ‘Q’ family of sport utility vehicles (SUV). With the Audi Q5 and Q7 making up the ‘Medium’ and ‘Large’ sizes, Audi’s latest addition, the new Q3 completes the range as the ‘Compact’ member of the family.

Designed with a raised coupe-like profile, the Audi Q3 can be considered a compact crossover (SUV-like cars with ample ground clearance but boast a sleeker shape) that is purpose built to cater to the demands of an active lifestyle, the requirements of a city-friendly commute and the expectation of luxurious comfort. With the launch of the new Audi Q3, the car checks off all the boxes for form and function.

On the outside, the new Q3 boasts all the design elements that are distinctively Audi. It is characterized by a sharp and sleek design, accentuated by the brand’s wedge-shaped headlights and LED daytime running lights. Benefitting from Audi ultra, the German carmaker’s use of materials like aluminium and high-strength steel in its lightweight vehicle construction process sees the Q3 weigh-in at just 1,445 kilograms (for the base model).

Under the bonnet, the new Q3 is powered by a choice of two turbocharged 2.0-litre TFSI engines that deliver 170bhp with 280Nm of torque and 211bhp with 300Nm of torque respectively. Mated to Audi’s seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the Q3 can manage the 0-100km/h sprint in 7.8 and 6.9 seconds respectively before topping out at 212km/h and 230km/h respectively.

Inside, the Audi Q3 comes equipped with a host of features, among them Audi’s updated MMI multimedia interface. Highlighting more practical concerns, Audi says that the 460litre (extendable to 1,365litres) capacity in the boot is class-leading. One thing’s for sure, the 1,070mm width in the rear will easily accommodate the stowage of a mountain bike, or two.

Prices for the new Audi Q3 start from $221,988 for the 170bhp variant and from $234,988 for the more powerful 211bhp variant.
