LTA investigating unintended acceleration in Hyundais

After various dashcam videos have surfaced on the Internet showing Sudden Unintended Acceleration in Hyundai cars, the LTA has launched an investigation to try and work out if said phenomenon has anything to do with a whole host of accidents involving taxis locally. This decision was made after said videos reveal taxis being involved in dramatic crashes that may hint at the drivers losing control of their vehicles at the time of impact. One such video depicts a taxi reversing and hitting a park car hard in an HDB carpark. The driver then moved forwards, before the cab lurched backwards quickly, mounting a kerb before hitting a block of flats. Another video depicts a similar incident, in which the taxi reversed into a vehicle near the entrance of a carpark gantry. The taxi then accelerated at relatively high speeds in a forwardly direction, hitting multiple vehicles. That said, car issues may not always be the culprit; sometimes, it may just be the drivers mistakenly pressing the throttle pedal rather than the brake. However, the LTA has said that it is too early to draw conclusions, and that more time is needed to investigate the issue.
