MSO churns out yet another Special
Manufacturers of rare and exclusive automobiles have figured out a way to milk their cash cow – yes, by creating a special division dedicated to building cars with unusual or unique specs. The next car to join McLaren’s Special Operations’ portfolio, is the Carbon Series LT. The Carbon Series LT shares everything mechanically and electronically with the regular 675LT. However, the British automaker can get away with charging a significant premium over the regular car for 2 reasons. Firstly, only 25 will be made, making it even more exclusive than the current 675 LT, and secondly, it is a lot of work to get the Carbon weave to match up and to ‘flow’ all across the car. The new car has lost a couple of panels (about 40%) which were once made from metal – now the said parts are made from Carbon Fibre. The list includes the "retractable roof and tonneau, A-pillars, bonnet and rear deck, side blades, complete front and rear wings, and even fuel filler flap".
Despite there not being an increase in engine output, the decrease in weight should mean that the Carbon Series cars should comfortably outperform their non-Carbon Series sibling.
