New RX-8 merely a nip and tuck job.

Mazda's new RX-8 will share the same external fascia as the earlier reported RX-8 RS. Mazda admits that the 2009 RX-8 is simply a mild evolution of the outgoing model, with a few changes to the exterior and interior, along with a couple of mechanical revisions and a new suspension package.

A 232-hp two-rotor RENESIS engine will be fitted with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddles. The automatic reduces engine power to only 212-hp (why did they even bother).

Additional chassis bracing increases rigidity, along with a trapezoidal strut tower brace and new suspension geometry that keeps the RX-8 tail planted.

The 2009 RX-8 is also available with the optional R3 package that comes with rear spoiler, 19-inch forged aluminum wheels, side sills and fog lamps as seen on the RS.
