The entry point to Volkswagen’s wide range of cars is about to become even more attractive, with the upcoming launch of the new Polo 1.2 TSI. Compared to its 1.4-litre predecessor, the new model with 90 bhp is more powerful (1.4: 85 bhp) and needs only 10.9 seconds to accelerate from 0-100 km/h, one second less than before.

At the same time, it is nearly nine percent more economical overall, with an extremely low combined fuel consumption figure of 5.3 litres/100km (18.9 km/L). Carbon dioxide emissions have correspondingly been reduced from 135 to 124 g/km.

The Polo 1.2 TSI’s 1,197 cc turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces its maximum torque of 160 Nm all the way from 1,500-3,500 rpm, so effortless acceleration is available in all driving conditions. Further maximising driving dynamics is the latest version of Volkswagen’s highly acclaimed 7-speed DSG gearbox.

The introduction of this new entry-level Polo – the best-selling compact hatchback in Germany – marks another significant milestone in Volkswagen’s successful engine downsizing strategy. In Singapore, every Volkswagen model with a 3.0-litre or smaller engine now features the combined benefits of a TSI engine and DSG gearbox.

Visually setting the Polo 1.2 TSI apart from the previous Polo 1.4 are new 15-inch ‘Sima’ alloy wheels, while the RCD 210 radio / CD / MP3 entertainment system has been upgraded with a sharp new display.

Taking care of safety are twin airbags, all-round disc brakes with ABS and Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP). The comprehensively equipped cabin includes high-end features such as illuminated vanity mirrors, pull-out drawers under the front seats and a chilled glove compartment.

The Polo 1.2 TSI will be launched on the weekend of 12-13 May 2012, with prices starting from $96,800 with COE (off-peak car). Customer can visit both Volkswagen Centre Singapore (Alexandra) and Volkswagen Centre Singapore (MacPherson) to experience the car and enjoy the special launch activities.
