The viaduct was opened on Sunday, 19 April 2009 at 0100 hours.

The third up-ramp is located along Robinson Road, beside City House Building. The other two up-ramps are located at Central Boulevard and Raffles Quay. There will be no change to the at-grade roads at Raffles Quay and Robinson Road.

The viaduct enables motorists traveling to New Bridge Road to by-pass four busy junctions* along Cross Street. This will serve to alleviate traffic congestion moving at-grade during the construction period of the Downtown Line.

* The road junctions are at Telok Ayer Street, Cecil Street, Robinson Road and Raffles Quay.

With the opening of the final up-ramp, the construction for the temporary viaduct is fully completed. The viaduct is to ensure lane for lane replacement during the construction of Downtown Line 1 (DTL1) and it will be in use till the targeted completion of the Cross Street Station in 2012.

For safety reasons, motorists using the viaduct are to observe the following restrictions:

• Speed limit on viaduct: 30km/h

• Maximum vehicle weight: 2.5tonnes

• Height limit beneath the viaduct: 4.5m

• Height limit on viaduct: 2m from Robinson Road and Raffles Quay up-ramps; 3.2m from Central Boulevard up-ramp

Vehicles exceeding the maximum weight and height limits as stated above, and motorcycles are not allowed to access the viaduct. As such, motorcyclists and drivers of such vehicles are advised to plan their route in advance if they are heading to China Street as the only route to access is via Pickering Street.

Ample road signage, indicating the above mentioned restrictions, will be erected at roads leading to the viaduct ramp and various locations to inform motorists.

Should motorists have any queries, they may contact the LTA hotline at 1800-CALL LTA.
