The International Engine of the Year award in the ‘1.4-litre to 1.8-litre category' has again been won by the accomplished 1.6-litre, four-cylinder direct injection turbo petrol engine designed by PSA Peugeot Citroën in cooperation with BMW Group.

Introduced in 2007 on the Peugeot 207, the 175bhp version of the engine also equips the Peugeot 308 GT THP 175. The 1.4 to 1.6-litre engine range delivers between 95 to 175bhp and is capable of producing over 200bhp for future product developments.

Equipped with the latest technological features, including direct injection for the turbo engine, variable valve timing for the naturally aspirated engine and a volume flow-controlled oil pump, this engine range improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions by around 10% compared with the previous generation.

Engines in the 1.4-litre to 1.6-litre category currently equip more than 12 Peugeot models, including the Peugeot 207 hatchback, 207 CC, 207 SW, 308 hatchback, 308 CC, 308 SW and 3008. By 2010, 75% of all Peugeot vehicles will be equipped with 1.4-litre to 1.6-litre petrol engines.
