Renault's goal is to beat Toyota. And Mr. Patrick Pelata, Renault's Executive Vice-President, believes that the best way to go about this would be an alliance between a company with Japanese, European and American DNA.

"There are great people at GM and together we could do great things for sure but you have to have the will to be part of a global alliance and that was not embedded in GM in 2006," he said.

According to Mr. Pelata, he admired Toyota's purely Japanese way of working. However, still thinks that and while its planning, manufacturing, quality and customer services are good, they are not always excellent, because Toyota does not have European or American characteristics which can add other abilities to their business.

However, compared to the American market, Mr. Pelata sees greater opportunities in China, India, and Brazil. This means Renault will not be looking to return to the American market anytime soon.
