SG: 11 busted in drink driving raid
11 motorists have been caught in an islandwide operation in the wee hours of Tuesday. Road blocks were set up all across Singapore, and a total of 69 drivers were stopped to test for alcohol consumption, with 11 men, aged between 28 and 44, failing the test. One of the 11 recorded a breath evidential analyser (BEA) test result of 68 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, the highest amongst the offenders, and is nearly twice the legal limit. If found guilty, drivers will be disqualified from driving for at least 1 year and will lose their driving licences. First time offenders may also be fined between $1,000 and $5,000 and have their driving licences disqualified for a period of 12 to 48 months, whereas repeat offenders may be given a heafty fine of up to $30,000 and a three year jail sentence.
