SG: 18 arrested in drink-driving raid
18 motorists aged from 29 to 48 were arrested for drink-driving in an islandwide pre-dawn raid on Tuesday. Road blocks were set up at various points around Singapore, and a total of 76 drivers were pulled over for the breathalyser test. Out of those arrested, one had 110mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, which way exceeds the legal 35 micrograms limit. The 18 arrested will have their license revoked and banned from the roads for at least a year. They will have to retake and pass all the relevant tests before they are allowed to drive again. That’s not all. First time offenders can also be fined up to $5,000, with repeat offenders having a much larger $30,000 fine, along with a jail term of up to 3 years. Should death or serious injury be caused as a result of drink driving, they may also receive 6 strokes of the cane during their sentence. Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
