SG: Driverless Taxis to be trialled on roads

Experts in the relevant fields are expecting government officials to give the green light to an on-demand driverless taxi trial on public roads. The goal? To make car-sharing as convenient as private car-ownership, whilst making it as sustainable as public transportation. The firm which has applied to take part in the experiment, Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART), currently only has one electric car, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV in its fleet. Whilst the pilot run will only be limited to the One-North area, and possibly even open to only their employees, the final goal is to have an Uber-esque system in place, where commuters can book a driverless ride through their mobile devices.
