SG: LTA to match Malaysia’s Toll Charges

The LTA will match Malaysia’s toll charges should they increase the current rates. When asked why, the LTA has replied that it has been a tradition for Singapore to match Malaysia’s toll rates at the Causeway and the Second Link. This comes after Malaysia has said that they will raise toll charges for all vehicles with exception to motorcycles travelling from Singapore to Johor through the Johor Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at the Causeway. LTA noted that these causeway toll changes deviate from Malaysia's earlier announcement to impose an entry fee on foreign-registered vehicles entering Johor. When the new charges kick in, those travelling by car will have to pay about S$6.50 (RM16.50) for a return day trip to Singapore, as compared to the current one-way charge of roughly S$1.10 (RM 2.90). Buses would have to fork out S$5.20 (RM13.30) for a round trip, and taxis would be charged S$3.20 (RM8.20) per two-way trip.
