SG: Updates to Class 3 Licences

SG: Updates to Class 3 Licences

With effect from the 1st of June this year, 2 new classes of driving licenses will be introduced. They are the Class 3C and 3CA licenses, which will allow the holder to drive all Class 3 vehicles, with the exception of light goods vehicles, mini vans and small buses. The new scheme will enable drivers with foreign driving licence to pass only the Basic Theory Test to convert the licence to Class 3C licence. The Class 3CA licenses will only allow the holders to drive automatic private vehicles. Revisions have also been made to the existing Class 3 and 3A licenses. Work Permit and S-Pass holders with foreign driving license who have plans to convert to a local Class 3 license will have to pass the Class 3 Practical Driving Test (PDT), on top of the existing BTT.  New test rates will also be put in place from June this year. The existing rates, which were introduced in 1997, are no longer as sustainable as they once were, owing to the increase in operating costs. The test fee for the Basic Driving Theory Test, Final Driving Theory Test and Motorcycle Riding Theory Test will be increased from S$6.00 to S$6.50. The test fee for the Practical Riding Test, Practical Driving Test, and Proficiency Driving Test will be increased from S$20 to S$26 on Jun 1, 2015, and to S$33 on Jun 1, 2016.
