SG: Valets at Sentosa take S$1m Ferrari 458 for a joyride
Imagine leaving your brand new Ferrari in the front lobby of a swanky hotel comforted in the knowledge that the valets there will keep an eye on your precious stallion. Well, the valets at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) did more than just that last Tuesday when the owner of a Ferrari 458 Italia, Preston, a retiree visited the hotel for a late night supper. The 61-year-old even reminded the valet twice not to move his car when he entrusted the valet with the key as his car's insurance does not cover valets. When he returned to the front lobby of Hotel Michael at 3:30am, his precious stallion was nowhere to be found.
It was not known how Preston found his car but when he checked the in-car camera footage, his blood pressure shot up. The footage showed the two valets going on a joyride around Sentosa at speeds up to 80kmh. Twice the speed limit allowed on the resort island. In the footage, the valets were heard boasting about having driven Lamborghinis and an Audi before.
Preston has filed a police report and a police spokeman has confirmed that investigations are under way.
An RWS spokesman said it had been made aware of the incident by the guest and investigations involving all parties are ongoing.
"We take a serious view of incidents involving guest property and have in place strict policies for outsourced valet staff to follow," he added.
