SG: Violent storms wreck havoc on roads

On Wednesday morning Singapore woke up to the roar of thunder as violent storms ravaged the country. Trees were uprooted at several areas, such as Mandai and Ang Mo Kio. That and the rain caused massive traffic jams. Low lying areas such as Commonwealth Lane and the Kranji Expressway slip road to Woodlands Road were flooded as well. The first drops of the torrential downpour fell at roughly 6:00am, and only ceased 5 hours later. The Meteorological Service Singapore recorded rain fall of 96.8mm at Mandai from 6.10am to 7.10am, which is close to the highest recorded one-hour rainfall for July of 109.6mm in July 2010. Wind speeds were clock at 59.8km/h, 30 or so shy of the 84.6 recorded in 2012.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
