SG: VW to recall cars over gearbox issues from tomorrow.

Volkswagens fitted with the popular seven-speed double-clutch gearbox, more commonly known as DSG, would be recalled starting from tomorrow. Apparently, the gearboxes have developed a fault that may lead to a sudden loss in power. A Volkswagen Group Singapore spokesman said that the recall is voluntary and not a safety issue. The replacement of faulty parts would be free of charge. VW SG anticipates the process to take a few months.

This is the third time that VW’s DSG gearbox has encountered a hiccup. In April 2012, about 8,000 VW owners were asked to bring their cars into the workshop for a software reflash. In 2010, VW Singapore replaced the mechatronic units of more than 1,000 vehicles due to the inferior quality of the factory fitted parts.
