The New Swift, launched just two months ago, has been awarded the ‘Best Small Car’ by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers as well as the ‘Safety’ Award at the Annual Scottish Car of the Year Awards, held at St Andrews on Firework night.

New Swift was judged by the 20 members of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, scoring the most points in the ‘Small Car’ category and achieving the first award for Suzuki in the 12 year history of the SCOTY event.

John Murdoch, President of the ASMW said: “Buyers now demand from small cars the level of comfort, quality, refinement and safety once only found in executive cars. The Suzuki Swift achieves this with a sense of style and a careful eye on pricing. As a result it marks the first ever SCOTY award for Suzuki and shows how far the brand has come since our inaugural awards in 1998.”

Adding to this important award for Suzuki, new Swift also won the ‘Safety’ category for its equipment list of seven airbags, ESP and Five star NCAP crash test rating, all available across the range as standard.

Commenting further, John Murdoch, President of the ASMW said: “Turn back the clock 20 years or so and safety features like multiple airbags and ABS were reserved exclusively for top-end vehicles with a premium price tag. Today the motoring public expects them on even the most affordable products and manufacturers strive to achieve five-star Euro NCAP recognition.

“The Suzuki Swift sets new standards in the hunt for safer motoring and as a result is the inaugural winner of our Safety accolade. It is the second SCOTY gong for the Swift and in our view they are both well deserved.”

David Seward, Senior Director Sales and Marketing, comments: “At Suzuki we are well known as the small car experts and these highly prestigious awards really help reinforce that; Swift is a very important model and we are delighted that it is so highly regarded by the Scottish Motoring media.”
