The key to safer motoring?

Ford is developing a new type of car key that enables parents to limit the speed at which their teenage children can drive their car.

Operating through a computer chip in the ignition key, the MyKey system is being developed initially for the Ford Focus in the United States, where drivers can get a licence at the age of 16. However, more than 5,000 die in car crashes every year.

Research showed that the system was backed by 75 percent of adults but not surprisingly, resented by 67 percent of teenagers.
