Tragic accident in Margam stage - Rally GB
[I]A serious accident has left the Peugeot Sport team in mourning this Sunday morning during the last leg of the Wales Rally GB. Markko Martin left the route shortly after the start of the second stage of the day and hit a tree on the right hand side of the car, mortally wounding his co-driver Michael Park.[/I]

The accident happened when Markko Martin lost control of his 307 and violently hit a tree on the co-driver side. Michael Park, his co-driver, was not able to get out of the car. Medical assistance arrived quickly on the scene but could not help Park who tragically died from the impact.
Michael Park was 39 years old and a father of two children.
The stage was stopped after the accident and Peugeot are now considering the possibility of withdrawing from the race.
The driver of car number 8, Markko Martin is uninjured.
Margam 1 has been stopped and Margam 2 will not be run. On the advice of the FIA Safety Delegate Special Stages 16 and 17, Resolfen 2 and Margam 2 will not run.
Competitors will return for the finish in Cardiff, scheduled for 14:00.
There will be no champagne celebrations at the finish and the post-event FIA press conference has been cancelled.
