US: Google’s self-driving cars already on roads in California
Google’s selft-driving cars have been let loose on the streets of Mountain View, California. The decidedly panda-shaped vehicles, which are currently restricted to 25 mph and have human drivers as fail-safes, were initially slated to undergo trials later this year. Production versions of the car will have “a removable steering wheel, accelerator pedal, and brake pedal that allow them to take over driving if needed.” The technology certainly isn’t new; the tech giant has been working on said technologies in their modified Lexus and Toyota Prius self-driving cars, which have already racked up more than a million miles of on-road use.

Nelson Piquet Jr has driven his Formula E car to win the inaugural championship! He chalked up 2 wins at Long Beach and at Moscow, and 3 further podiums across the season. Going into the last race of the season, Piquet Jr led Buemi by 5 points. Starting 16th on the grid, many put their money on Buemi being the champion instead, and those who actually did put cash on Buemi would be happy right up to past the first safety car. Piquet Jr, who energy-saved in car 1 from the beginning, was able to stay out for 2 laps longer than anyone else. By staying out for an extra 2 laps, Piquet Jr had more energy to use in car 2. The extra energy came into play after Leimer’s crash brought out the safety car. Post-safety car period, all Piquet Jr needed to do was to pass 2 cars to win the title, one of them being his teammate. The team let Piquet Jr through, and in a matter of a few corners, the then 7th place man was dispatched off. To counter that, Buemi had to pass Bruno Senna, who used the whole width of the track to fend off the hard charging Swiss driver. The duo made a contact a few times, but Buemi wasn’t able to get past the Mahindra, giving Nelson Piquet Jr the championship win. Sam Bird won his home race, with the 2 Dragon cars completing the podium.
