Following the success of the standard Polo and its variants, Volkswagen has introduced yet another member to the family—the CrossPolo.

Embodying a rugged-sporty character, the five-door CrossPolo is endowed with an anthracite coloured front apron, with integrated front fog lights and large air inlet in the centre. Black wheelarch extensions, plastic guards at the front and rear bumpers, silver anodised roof rails and 17-inch ‘Budapest’ alloys help impress a tough all-terrain image. Ride height has also been raised by 15mm to better overcome obstacles.

While the CrossPolo’s interior trim remains similar to that in the standard Polo, it comes tricked out with embroided ‘CrossPolo’ signature, two-tone fabric seats and coloured stitching throughout the cockpit, giving the car a premium appeal. The car is also more spacious than the standard Polo with280 litres of space in the rear, extendable to 952 litres with the rear seats folded down.

The Volkswagen CrossPolo is powered by the German carmaker’s award-winning 1.2-litre TSI engine with 105bhp and 175Nm of torque. Mated to the brand’s seven-speed dual –clutch gearbox, the turbocharged 1.2-litre CrossPolo can make the 0-100km/h century sprint in just 9.9 seconds before topping out at 188km/h. For that level of performance, fuel efficiency is published at just 18.2km/L with CO2 emissions of 128g/km.

Looking to further spice up the Category A segment, Volkswagen will also be offering a 1.4-litre version of its seventh-generation Passat. Despite its smaller heart, the Passat 1.4 TSI will have 122bhp with 200Nm of torque.

The Passat 1.4 may be the entry model in the range, but notable features like keyless entry, electric seats, hands-free park assist and Easy Open sensor-controlled boot comes as standard.

Prices start from $126,300 for the Volkswagen CrossPolo and $155,800 for the Volkswagen Passat 1.4 TSI.
