What’s the Viper doing here?

Standing quietly on the sidelines at the Caliber launch at the weekend was a stunning red Dodge Viper GTS. Ordinarily, American muscle cars such as the Viper (or the Chevrolet Corvette or Ford Mustang, for that matter), really don’t mean very much in the local context since as left-hand driven models, it would be impossible to register the car, much less drive it on the road. The Viper on show on the other hand, is one of 30 limited edition right-hand drive models in the world. This means that, for the right price, this car can be purchased and registered for use. While the Viper’s 4.0sec0-100km/h time, 510bhp output and 660Nm of torque is incredibly intoxicating, the $13,000+ needed for roadtax to keep the 8.0-litre V-10 engine on the road will definitely separate the men from the boys. If you missed the catching a glimpse of the Viper GTS at Clark Quay, it will be on display at the Chrysler Jeep’s showrrom along Leng Kee Road until 25th October. Unless of course, someone makes an offer to buy it!
