World's Number One Electric Vehicle Nissan Leaf Arrives In Singapore
Singapore, 10 May 2019 – Nissan, the creator of the world’s best-selling electric vehicle (EV), has today announced the launch of the new Nissan LEAF in Singapore. The sale of Nissan LEAF, the world’s most advanced and accessible EV, marks a key milestone in the automotive manufacturer’s commitment to deliver a full lineup of electrified passenger vehicles in Singapore by 2022. The cars will be available at the Leng Kee and Ubi showrooms for test drive from today.
The Nissan LEAF is the icon of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the company’s vision on the future of mobility – which aims to move people towards a better, more autonomous, electric world. As the world’s best-selling EV with over 400,000 units sold, the Nissan LEAF is built on a 100% electric powertrain with advanced technologies to deliver optimal range, safety and performance.
Mr Glenn Tan, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director, Tan Chong International Limited said, “We are proud to bring in the Nissan LEAF for Singaporeans, who are becoming more environmentally conscious in their purchase decisions. We have had a very positive reception from consumers since we showcased the Nissan LEAF at the Singapore Motorshow earlier this year. As a lifestyle choice, it is great for urban driving, roomy enough for families, is super energy efficient and on top of that, is a powerful drive which doesn’t compromise the driving experience for car enthusiasts. The LEAF can travel over 300 km in a single charge, making it really convenient for consumers. It is an attractive and practical EV option for individuals and families.” Tan Chong International Limited exclusively distributes Nissan passenger and light commercial vehicles in Singapore through its fully owned subsidiary, Tan Chong Motor Sales.
“Singapore is fast developing into a comprehensive smart city and we are seeing an increased demand for safe, smart and sustainable mobility solutions. Electric vehicles play a key role in supporting a more sustainable future with zero tail pipe emissions to help meet carbon reduction goals and increasing air quality in parallel. As the world’s first mass-market electric vehicle, the Nissan LEAF has led the way in making the excitement and convenience of electric driving accessible to more people and transforming the way we drive and live,” said Mr Yutaka Sanada, regional senior vice president for Nissan Asia & Oceania.
The new Nissan LEAF’s augmented 40 kWh lithium-ion battery pack delivers capacity and durability, enabling more than 300 km of driving on a single charge. According to 2016 statistics from the Land Transport Authority in Singapore, the average annual mileage for private cars is 16,700km, translating to less than 50 km a day – of which this distance can be achieved several times over by just a single charge of the Nissan LEAF.
The new Nissan LEAF also delivers an exhilarating, linear driving experience with a power output of 110 kW and 320 Nm of torque, resulting in improved acceleration from 0 – 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds.
The new Nissan LEAF has a five-star safety rating, the highest possible from the Japan New Car Assessment Programme. Safety features include its highly rigid body structure, six SRS airbags, seats with enforced headrests, and back frames and seat belts with pre-tensioners and load-limiting capabilities for the front and rear outboard seating positions. It is also equipped with a set of advanced safety technologies including Intelligent Emergency Braking, Driver Attention Alert and Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection.
The new Nissan LEAF also has a highly protective battery case, layout and body structure - shielding occupants from high-voltage parts and a high-voltage cut-off device that activates in a collision.
In line with the Nissan Intelligent Mobility vision, the new Nissan LEAF boasts a range of advanced technologies. The innovative e-Pedal allows drivers to accelerate and decelerate with a single, seamless movement. In stop-and-go city traffic, the e-Pedal significantly reduces the need to shift from one pedal to the other – making driving simpler and more efficient. This revolutionary technology represents another key milestone in Nissan’s ongoing commitment to bring accessible, advanced driver assistance technologies to the market.
The electric hatchback also comes equipped with four distinct driving modes tailored for any driving situation and preference. The ‘D’ mode boasts higher responsiveness during acceleration and provides maximum EV performance, making it the most ideal mode for drivers to enjoy all the advantages an EV possesses. The ‘B’ mode allows for a higher driving range while enabling enhanced regenerative braking efficiency.
The new Nissan LEAF also offers two energy-saving alternatives – the ‘D’ mode with Eco and ‘B’ mode with Eco. The combination of the ‘B’ and ‘D’ modes with the Eco element delivers an enhanced driving experience while conserving energy. The ‘D’ mode with Eco consumes less energy than the other modes, through the moderation of the air conditioner unit and the reduced sponsiveness to acceleration – making it the best suited mode for everyday driving. The ‘B’ mode with Eco is apt for downhill driving, due to its enhanced regenerative braking feature. It also helps to reduce the amount of braking needed and wear-and-tear.
The new Nissan LEAF’s advanced exterior design features a sleek look, including the signature boomerang-shaped lamps and V-motion design up front. In a first for Nissan, the new Nissan LEAF’s projector-beam headlights are equipped with dual, direct-lens low and high beams. This improves visibility and safety while achieving an optimal balance between design and functionality.
The new Nissan LEAF also boasts a spacious and highly functional interior, influenced by Nissan’s “Gliding Wing” design language. The redesigned driver information display creates an elevated look and feel while offering excellent functionality. Vibrant blue contrast stitching – a hallmark of Nissan’s EVs – can also be found throughout the vehicle, highlighting its steering wheel, seats, door trim and arm rests. The combination of materials used in the new LEAF’s interior are a mark of a well-designed vehicle, offering drivers an ideal balance of comfort and style.
The new Nissan LEAF will retail for S$161,800 with COE.
