7 Up
The Golf gets even more interesting now - 1.4-litre turbo-charged engine mated to a 7-speed DSG 'box. All these for a price tag that's nicely below $86k...

Outwardly, there’s little to hint that this is the new variant compared to the previous 1.6 FSI. The only obvious differences are the TSI badge on the boot, and the 15-inch “Misano” alloy wheels wrapped in rather tall 195/65 R-15 Continental ContiEcoContact 3 tyres on the newer model.
It’s the same case on the inside. There are some minor improvements over the earlier model - like the new dark brushed aluminium of the trim surrounding the stereo head unit, and the addition of a “Dual” button for the two zone climate control system. Besides that, everything else is a familiar affair to both Golf and Jetta owners.

Even though there’s a new model on the horizon, the current Golf is still a fantastic car to own and drive. The new engine and gearbox combination should further broaden the Golf’s appeal even wider, all thanks to their combination of efficiency and performance.
While the Golf is a mainstream model in Europe, it isn’t the case over here. Its premium pricing means it won’t be a car that everyone will buy when they are looking for a small family car, but really, ignore it at your own peril.
You don’t know what you’re missing out on…
